How design sets a precedent

One school, one name, one logo, one message. Unfortunately not congruent. Time for a redesign. As there are already a large number of logos and symbols with the signature and likeness of Anne Frank for schools and other institutions, it was clear that we needed a different, fresh design approach. In addition to the usual definitions such as target groups etc., the chestnut tree, which Anne Frank described in her diary, quickly emerged as a suitable approach. In the context of the school, the tree also symbolizes growth and diverse development opportunities for children as well as grounding and stability. In addition, a tree is a habitat for many different organisms and therefore stands for community and diversity. Sounds easier than it was, though. The idea of a letter tree was born – a tree consisting only of letters. The appeal of this idea lay in a symbol. One that requires a second or third look in order to be deciphered. The solution was a specially designed font in which the letters intertwine like the branches of a tree. In this way, individual elements become a colorful whole. Just as you would imagine for a school that stands for diversity and community.
